no NO bc SHHHH SHHHH. Rewatching the movie again knowing the context of nimona’s backstory just HIT In such a fresh way. SHHHH NO bc. shes been living like this for a THOUSAND years. She is an immortal being and she has seen this kingdom be built from the ground up for the entirety of its one thousand years. And the only reason it exists at all, the iron fist of the institute and the knight’s duty to protect inhbaitants inside the wall against monsters outside of it… is because of her. Gloreth’s will to create a league of knights only exists because of NIMONA. And a thousand years she stands surrounded by all this as it grows bigger and bigger. An entire kingdom built just so it can protect a threat that doesnt exist outside of HER. In a world where entire legislations and bills are made to target a small minority, where groups of adults agree to push a rule just so that the ONLY transgender kid in a small town cant play the sport they want - I cannot see how it isn’t similar at all. This shot hurts me so much because it is us settling into the realization that the world has expanded so far beyond nimona all because it will never want her. A thousand years of this…. why shouldn’t she finally give in?

The thing about Nimona (the movie) is, as you begin to watch, you think the knights have been fighting off monsters, like, regularly. That if not the last few generations, than at least a 200, 400 years ago, right? They’ve built the wall and they’ve made the Mega Destructive Canons, and an 1000 years worth of (possibly a tad inbred) Knights trained to fight monsters, and you think, well, they must have USED them
And as the movie goes on you realise, people haven’t just never seen a monster in recent memory, the Kingdom has never seen a monster At All.
Gloreth was a child, she turned on her friend because her parents told her to. Nimona left after Gloreth turned her sword on her. She “defeated” the monster.
Gloreth’s home was destroyed by the foolishness and hatred of the adults around her, but she was raised to believe it was her friend’s doing. Her memory of the event was probably twisted by this narrative, until she remembered it as the little girl turning into a fire breathing monster (Nimona never actually turns into anything that looks like that dragon image in the scroll)
Then, raised to believe she’d been the hero, told over and over again that her positive memories of Nimona were lies, Gloreth grew up hating “monsters”
But she never actually fought them. Her knights never fought them.
No one did.
Because the monsters never existed

*edit: added the alternative version of this, for scale purposes and cuz deer ^///^
Headcanon: Much like her father MN has the potential/ability to grow to a titan-sized version of herself however since she does not draw her power from belief this is something she does quite often, at least by comparison to her father.
That being said, in this form she can only exist as we imagine ‘spirits’ to look like and having no solid form this makes her more vulnerable while also more powerful.
Her powers weren’t meant for nor does she use them (at least in this state) for the purposes of harm or battle but that doesn’t meant she hasn’t used it once or twice to 'redirect’ humans whenever they’d get too close for her liking.

“How does it feel to be the last Pooka left? Do you miss your people?”
Aster (genus)
The name Aster comes from the Ancient Greek word ἀστήρ (astḗr), meaning “star”, referring to the shape of the flower head.
